It is so crazy to think how internship is already almost over. I have had such an amazing time at Cabrillo and I have learned so much and gotten the opportunity to meet a ton of amazing people. I am totally going to miss working with Lonie and all the killer views around the park. It is a bittersweet feeling because I am going to be sad I am not there anymore, but I am also excited to get back to school and see all my friends again. Overall though it truly was an awesome experience and I could not thank my mentor Lonie enough!
Blog Prompt 1:
If I could pass on advice to future interns, one of the things I would tell them is to go into it with an open mind, stay positive, and be respectful. I think these things are really important because they can make the internship really smooth and offer a successful experience to both the intern and mentor. Keeping an open mind is crucial because it sets the tone for the rest of the internship and allows the intern to stay positive throughout the whole process. Someone might not look forward to certain things or may not want to do the work, but giving it a chance and full effort is a great way to get past those barriers. Being respectful is also super important because it can show the mentor that the intern cares and they would then gain respect in return. I think a great way to develop these skills can be in school on a daily basis. Whether it is staying positive on a tough assignment or interacting with a new teacher and giving them respect. All three of those things can be demonstrated in someones life everyday and can help develop the skill before something like an internship. I think I did these things very well during my internship and can definitely be one of the reasons why it was so awesome and successful!
Blog Prompt 2:
I am feeling pretty good about returning back to school next week. My emotions are mainly excitement mixed in with a little bit of anxiousness and stress. It will be awesome to be back at school and be able to see all my teachers and friends. I have not seen most of my friends in over a month so I am looking forward to that. I am also super stoked to be back upstairs for the second semester. The treehouse was definitely an interesting experience and it was cool to get a feel for it, but I like being up top way better and it is a lot easier for me with my advisory and xblock. I am also a little bit nervous for biology because I know it can be a difficult subject, but I am looking forward to having Carli as a teacher and I think I am going to be very interested in the subject. I think in school I will be much more mature now that I have experienced what it was like being in a professional work environment. I plan to take what I learned and apply it to my new classes, so I can really succeed this semester and make my life as easy as possible. Although I am excited to be back I am going to miss Lonie and all my friends at Cabrillo. I got to build friendships with some awesome people and I am going to miss interacting with them on a daily basis.
