As I write this, I am counting down the hours until the start of my internship. I am very excited for this unique opportunity and I think it is going to be really beneficial to me and my learning. Although I do not start my internship until Thursday, January 11th and this is because my mentor is not onsite on Wednesday's. Despite this I plan to use my time on Wednesday to make final preparations such as filling out the necessary paperwork and volunteer forms needed for my organization as well as gathering my clothing and mapping out my route to my internship. I will be working with the plant life at the Cabrillo National Monument, and learning about the native and invasive species' we have here in San Diego. I am really looking forward to my time at Cabrillo because I love being in nature and plants and animals are really fascinating to me. My hope is that I become well versed with the native plants of San Diego, and that I can use my knowledge to educate others and help them become more informed about the good and bad plants in our city. My dreams are to get along well with my mentor and her coworkers and that I can add value to their organization with my intelligence and various skillsets. One of my fears is that I am not going to be good enough for this work therefore making me useless to my mentor. I am a little nervous with this whole experience, but I know that I am a hard worker and I always strive to do my best which are two important areas of success when going into something new. Overall I think internship is going to be awesome and I can't wait to see what is in store with Cabrillo and my mentor Lonie.
